New CoP & Biosecurity Manual launched

The newly revised Australian Honey Bee Industry Code of Practice and Biosecurity Manual are now available online.

Both documents have been updated and developed in consultation with beekeepers and governments.

The Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice (the Code) provides a framework for all beekeepers on how to implement best practice biosecurity measures in their apiary.

The Code seeks to improve general pest and disease control awareness, help beekeepers identify exotic bee pests and diseases including Varroa mite, promote regular surveillance activities and ensure the future viability and sustainability of our Australian honey bee industry.

It’s important to note that whilst the Code is not a manual on how to keep bees, it does provide invaluable advice on how to minimise the impact of pests and diseases on both your own hives and those of your fellow beekeepers.

Complementing the Code is the Biosecurity Manual for Beekeepers. This document provides beekeepers with detailed advice on managing specific bee pests and diseases, advice on the movement of bees and bee equipment, plus lots more.

Together, these manuals are indispensable resources for all recreational and commercial beekeepers.
